| Abstract | This study examines the relationship between adolescent suicidal ideation, social support, and the effective means of help for adolescents with suicidal ideation in Hong Kong. Subjects were 225 adolescents aged between 12 and 21 with suicidal ideation or who had been approached by someone who had suicidal ideation in 1995 and 1996. Results showed that family problems, relationship problems with the opposite sex, parental neglect and abuse, and academic problems are the main causes of suicidal ideation. Adolescents with suicidal ideation had weaker social support, particularly familial one. Implications for these findings are discussed. |
