Abstract | At the 15th Congress of the Chinese Communist Party, for the first time, Chinese Communists were treating the cameras, particularly those with the logos of foreign broadcast networks, more as allies than intruders. That aspect, at least, marked a sea-change from past congresses. Until very recently, China seemed to act with near total disregard of how its image played both at home and abroad. There is increasing concern about projecting the right image. This article features the changes and reasons. |
