AbstractHong Kong offers 150 one-way permits for mainlanders to stay in Hong Kong each day. To meet the new arrivals' employment needs, the admission criteria of employees retraining programmes have been revised to admit new arrivals aged 30 or above. Since February 1997,the Employees Retraining Board has launched a Job Orientation Course specially designed for new arrivals. This article introduces the course and incorporation of self-learning concept emphasized by the Employment Service of the Hong Kong Council of Social Service.
