AbstractThe Chinese call it meiyu, the "plum rains" that annually nurture much of Asia beginning in late spring or early summer. But as euphonious as the weather phenomenon may sound, monsoon season can just as easily turn vicious. 1997 has so far been a costly one. The region has been inundated and devastated by torrential rains and biblical floods.
