| Abstract | July 1, 1997 was the big day and the dawning of this new era has brought to the local tertiary sector new concerns and possibilities.President Prof. Poon Chung-kwong of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) manifested strong confidence in the future for the University and the Special Administrative Region. An abridged version of his speech at the Regiona Conference on Higher Education held in Tokyo in July 1997 is provided in the article. Accompanying this are interviews with three PolyU staff and students: Prof. Ko Jan-ming, who has much experience in forging close links with China mainland; Dr. Chan Chun-wah, an academic who has served the institution for more than 20 years, and Miss Lit Ming-wai, President of the Students' Union. |
