AbstractHong Kong's stock market has not just weathered the territory's once-worrisome handover to China -- it has thrived. Since June 27 1997, the benchmark Hang Seng Index has surged nearly 8 %. The gain since the first of the year is 24.1 %, besting the 23.6 % increase in the Dow Jones Industrial Average. Veteran market-watcher David Lui, director of Schroder Investment Management Hong Kong Ltd., cautions against investor euphoria over the performance. But the London School of Economics graduate, who spent 16 years with Barclays Bank in Hong Kong, finds little in the fundamentals to suggest the climb will come to an abrupt end any time soon.
