AbstractThe Government microchipping registration scheme for dogs over 5 months was launched on 2nd December 1996. A computer chip the size of a grain of rice is injected under the dog's skin between its shoulders. This causes only mild discomfort at the time. The chip carries a code which can be read by a scanner. Details of the dog, its owner and the rabies vaccination record are stored on computer by the Agriculture and Fisheries Department (AFD).
