| Abstract | The South Sea Pearl Consortium Ltd has been actively promoting South Sea pearls to American, European and Asian countries including Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea and Thailand. Sales volume at the Paspaley South Sea Pearl Auction, the world's largest auction of South Sea pearls held in Hong Kong in March 1996, had improved by 5% and the sales prices had risen by 20%, reflecting the general trend in world demand and sales. At the Hong Kong and Jewellery and Watch Fair in September 1996, brisk business reflected the rising global demand for South Sea pearls. |
