Abstract | Hyperhomocysteinaemia has recently been identified as an independent risk factor for coronary heart disease (CHD). This is the abstract of a study in Hong Kong Chinese with angiographically confirmed CHD where significantly higher fasting homocysteine levels (Hcy) compared to controls are showed. Although controversial, some investigators have found that the variant T allele of the methylenehydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene is responsible for a 50% reduction in enzyme activity and high Hcy. |
