Abstract | Mild to moderate hyperhomocysteinaemia is rapidly recognised as an important risk factor for coronary heart disease. The causes include genetic, dietary and evironmental factors. The authors had previously shown, in a pilot study involving 45 patients, that in the Hong Kong Chinese hyperhomocysteinaemia may be presented in about 33% of patients with coronary artery disease but folate and B12 deficiency was not detected. The authors have extended the study to 200 patients. This article is an abstract of the study report. |
