AbstractMothers are often solely blamed for their children's problems. Although mothers clearly have an important role in their children's upbringing, their power over their children is sometimes limited. Psychological theories of development underscore the multiple factors which contribute to the formation of each human being. Yet mothers still sometimes serve as scapegoats for the problems of their children, problems which are clearly multi-causal. This article focuses on the concept and impact of mother-blaming in society, with reference to some recent examples of mother-blaming.
