AbstractThe term 'Public Art' should refer not only to permanent or temporary sculptures and murals installed in or created for public spaces, but also to a wide variety of artistically treated and decorated features such as street and park furniture, paving stones, exhaust fans, lamp-posts, fences, decorated public facilities, billboards, poetry posters, art trams, etc. These should be common and familiar sights in any living and changing city. Ideally, art should be a natural, integral part of a space or a building, not merely a cosmetic, last-minute addition. And public art projects in Hong Kong, if managed thoughtfully, could greatly improve, beautify and humanise many of the city's buildings and spaces by adding a human touch to the concrete jungle.
