| Abstract | Yu Boge, Vice-President of the China National Textiles Import & Export Corporation, on 14 November 1996 criticised the European Union (EU) for "discriminatory treatment" of China in the conduct of an anti-dumping investigation. Intensified protectionism lies, behind the increasing anti-dumping investigations against Chinese textile exports. The EU is considering imposing temporary anti-dumping duties on imports of Chinese unbleached cotton cloth. The penalty duty would have a serious impact on China's textile industry and cause a dramatic cut in jobs. |
