Is Part OfShippers today ; v.20, no.1, Jan/Feb 1997, p.17, illus.
AbstractProgress has caught up with Japan's oldest port, as the Port of Oita of Otia Prefecture in Kyushu, which was the first Japanese port to open trade with the West 450 years ago, opened its first container terminal in November 1996. Because of its geographic location, the Port of Oita already had established trading ties with Taiwan, Hong Kong and other Asian ports. These ties are expected to strengthen with the opening of the Ozai container terminal.
