| Abstract | China is often called the wonderland of cranes. Of fifteen crane species throughout the world, China is home to eight. But a degraded environment, misguided government policy, poachers and pesticides have put some crane species in danger of disappearing. Long after the cranes had deserted Caohai, the government built a dam to restore the dried out lake bed. That winter, the cranes returned. |
