| Abstract | During the 1994-1995 period, the CHINANET, China's public computer internetwork, which is built and operated by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (MPT), Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hangzhou and Shenyang cities set up and put into operation their respective network nodes, through which customers are able to communicate with host computers in domestic and foreign networks. But the present problem is that the system capacity of the CHINANET lags far behind the demand of customers. In view of this, in October 1995 the MPT embarked on the back-bone network of the CHINANET to cover all the centrally-administered municipalities and provincial capitals. The scale, functions and the structure of the CHINANET backbone network are introduced in this article. |
