| Abstract | CHINANET, the Chinese PTT-operated public interconnection network which constitutes China's Internet backbone network, was put into commercial operation in May 1995. Via this network, customers can gain easy and flexible access to Internet to share its rich information resources and various information services. In addition, by making use of the communications platform and customer groups over CHINANET, customers can operate multi-media services or build their own application platforms. This article traces the evolution of Internet and introduces the network architecture and the services provided by CHINANET. |
