AbstractCharismatic was the adjective most used by admirers to describe George Tan Soongin, whose bid to show that you could fool all the people all of the time finally ended in the High Court in mid-September 1996 when he pleaded guilty to fraud charges. The author met Tan once socially when his mysterious Carrian group was the toast of the town, and several times professionally after the ramshackle empire imploded with debts of an impressive $8 billion. In this article, the author talks more about this Carrian man.
