| Abstract | Families of the victims and a fire safety expert are arguing that the number of deaths in Garley Building fire, Hong Kong's worst fire disaster in decades, would not have been as high had firefighters used additional equipment and rescue measures. Chief Fire Officer (Kowloon) Pik Yung-keung says criticisms of the Fire Service Department's (FSD) rescue operations are unfair. Lisa Yan, chairman of the Fire Insurance Association, and Peter Lam, general manager of fire safety equipment and systems supplier Chubb Hong Kong also express their opinions in this article. |
