Abstract | All Hong Kong's wildlife is protected by law and cannot be brought or sold. It is, however, the ridiculous case that a handful of game dealers are licensed to import those same species from China and sell them in Hong Kong. If a stall holder or restaurant can show proof that the animal was purchaesd from a licensed dealer it is legal for him to sell an animal that would be protected in Hong Kong but was caught in China. The Royal Soceity for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals would ask members to realise that this is a fine distinction and not to eat locally-protected species, such as civet cats, regardless of where they happan to have been trapped. |
