Article TitleWork and family roles of female nurses : sources of stresses and coping strategies / Esther Mok and Sophia Chan.
Is Part OfThe Hong Kong nursing journal ; no.73, 1996, p.12-20.
AbstractIn Hong Kong women comprised some 38% of the labour force in 1991. The labour force participation rate for women has risen from 43.6% in 1976 to 49.5% in 1991. This article aims to describe the daily stressors and coping strategies reported by women who worked as nurses. It also examines whether there are differences in the incidence of daily hassles and coping strategies among the four groups of nurses with differing configurations of work and family role demands. The way women perceive the hassles depends on the type of work, work position and their additional roles as student, caregiver. It also depends on the social support they gain from others.
