| Abstract | During 1996 the China state Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) expects to obtain orders for a total of 2.4 to 2.6 million dwt. Its shipbuilding output is targeted at 1.8 million dwt and its entire turnover is expected to reach 16.3 billion yuan (about US$1.96 billion). Domestic orders are also expected to grow in 1996. CSSC has been negotiating with communication and transportation departments of the country about orders totalling 1 million dwt, 300,000 dwt of which has been contracted. CSSC's output target for 1997 is 2.2 to 2.4 million dwt. And for 2000 the figure is 3 to 3.5 million dwt, which is likely to account for 10 per cent of the world output. |
