| Abstract | Passenger travel and freight movement are rapidly expanding in the Pearl River Delta region. Accordingly, the Chinese Government is constructing and planning a large highway network and several road improvement projects. This article, based on a longer paper to be presented at Highways to the Future conference in November 1996, outlines the expanding highway network and discusses its role in regional economic development. |
