| Abstract | This article is divided into three sections. The first, describes the principal types of hyperlipidaemias (also known as hyperlipoproteinaemias) and the respective antilipidaemic drug categories used in their treatment. The second, provides explicit consensus guidelines for the drug treatment of patients with the corresponding hyperlipidaemias, based on evidence from clinical trials and cost-effectiveness considerations. The latter refer to current (March 1996) Hong Kong Public Hospital costs of individual drugs. The final section details some clinically important adverse/side effects, drug interactions and other issues pertinent to the use of these agents. |
