AbstractThe Post Office changed to Trading Fund status on 1 August 1995. It gives the Post Office the financial autonomy it needs to more quickly respond to the increasing demands of today's Hong Kong consumers. The switch to Trading Fund status has allowed the office to evolve its own corporate identity and, like any business, to pursue and develop those services which bring in the cash, services such as Speedpost and philatelic sales. Although the Post Office has to cover its operating costs, make a profit and pay a 'dividend' each year to the Hong Kong Government, the local delivery of mail and parcels will not suffer.
