AbstractMost front-line staff in the hospitality industry learn their basic skills on the job. But two institutions in Hong Kong - training centres set up by the Vocational Training Council - turn out graduates already trained and ready to work. The third tier of advanced education for the hospitality industry - below university level and technical colleges - is a fertile producer of frontline recruits. The Hotel, Catering and Tourism Training Board established the hotel industry training centre to provide young people with an environment to learn the practical aspects of hotel work.
