| Abstract | Hong Kong's greatest strength has always been its tolerance and inclusive nature. The bottom line is that ours is a society built on respect. During a stretch back there people had difficulties but each was overcome because this machine called Hong Kong was ingeniously engineered and the parts worked marvellously, however hard it was driven. Hong Kong, to use the automotive metaphor, has never needed a drastic overhaul but only the periodic tune up, oil change, a rotation of the tires to keep it in perfect pitch. People have rarely required any such prompting, preaching or reaffirmation of credo because the natural tendency, reflex, is to embrace and not to alienate, to include and not to exclude. |
