| Abstract | This article explains why the Royal Soceity for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) needs the help of the society. RSPCA is not a government department and receives only a discretionary grant that, in 1995, was less than 3% of operating costs of almost $30 million. It has been rejected for membership of the Community Chest, despite work of obvious benefit to the community, including giving free treatment to the pets of those who cannot afford veterinary bills and looking after pets temporarily for people in hospital or prison. |
