| Abstract | Development has become an alluring catchword among farmers in Longshan county of half a million people in Hunan province in China. Like highly-motivated 42-year-old Li, they too are constantly seeking ways to improve their income. The planting and cultivation of fruit trees is one method which is also part of China's nationwide campaign of "storming the citadel of poverty," codenamed Project 87. With this project, China has succeeded in lifting 15 million people out of poverty in three years. |
