| Abstract | Spurned by society and hunted down by law enforcement agents, the number of cigarette smokers in China are now dwindling but it will be some time before the city is completely rid of their scourge. Few people are tempted to indulge their habit in public since a city-wide ban went into effect on 15 May 1996. And so far the results of the campaign have been impressive. According to the Municipal Patriotic Health Committee, more than 10,000 public places were inspected within the first two months of the ban. |
