| Abstract | The 1997 Hong Kong Arts Festival programme is going to be a real humdinger. Even better than the 1996 festival - and that was a truly superb three weeks of music, dance and theatre. Announced officially already is Chinese composer Tan Dun's new large scale opera, Marco Polo. An exploration in music and the performing arts through the fusion of Western avant-garde style with an Eastern accent, the show includes elements of Peking Opera, Kabuki, Indonesian shadow theatre, and face painting of Tibetan ritual. |
