| Abstract | While most modern mainlanders are said to scorn Peking Opera as a living fossil of old China, its vastly diminished number of devotees remains intensely, vocally loyal. So involved are they with the art form that, rather than await the curtain, they pepper performances with cheers. There is little money for productions. Audiences have dwindled drastically, and grey hair predominates among those who remain. |
