| Abstract | In the 1980s, melatonin was used by a handful of doctors in the US to treat patients with sleep disorders. Hong Kong's New Age Shop introduced melatonin to the territory in early 1996. Some doctors worry that many users do not realize that melatonin is neither a vitamin nor a traditional sedative. It is a hormone - one of the powerful chemicals that control everything from sexual development to maintaininig the body's water balance. |
