Abstract | The textile industry of Guangxi province has been in a precarious situation, and the bast textile sector in particular. Most bast textile goods produced in Guangxi are for markets in North China, especially the grain-producing provinces. In face of the higher selling prices for gunny bags due to the cost of raw materials, the traditional buyers resorted to supplies from other provinces. Meanwhile rural bast plants in other parts of China are competing with Guangxi by quoting lower and lower prices. |
