Abstract | In the 30th International Geological Congress in Beijing in August 1996, geoscientists discussed problems of deterioration of the environment. Problems include population explosion, increasingly limited living space, pollution, and ground subsidence due to excessive draining of groundwater. The geologists blame the developed world for its excessive consumption of food, minerals and fossil fuel resources, and also population growth. They urged for wiser use of water, air, soil, energy and minerals so that future generations are not cheated. |
