AbstractBeijing's 40-year-old Dongcheng district library has become the envy of other public libraries in the capital since moving into a new five-storey building in April 1996 with floor space 10 times more than before, making it China's largest public library at district/county level. An official of Beijing's culture bureau says the library sets a good example to counterparts elsewhere in the country, especially in its computerized management of reading and lending services.
