Abstract | In China, Australian brewing giant Fosters has reported a surprisingly large $17 million loss from its fledgling brewing investments in Guangdong and Shanghai and a joint venture with Wheelock Pacific in Tianjin. Meanwhile, amid wild speculation in early 1996, Hopewell Holdings' Gordon Wu sketched out a plan to inject the firm's 128 kilometres Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Zuhai highways, the Guangzhou ring road and the Bangkok Elevated Rail and Train System into a giant pot called Creata - Consolidated Real Estate and Transport Asia. However, the project has already been put down, before it had a chance to solve the financing problems of Hopewell. |
