| Abstract | China's shipping industry is undergoing something of a revolution. Traditionally insular in nature, mainland yards are now attracting more and more foreign orders, and Chinese fleet owners are having their bigger ships built in overseas yards. Leading this twin move is China's largest shipping conglomerate, China Ocean Shipping (Group) Co (Cosco), which is increasingly seeking the skills of Korean and Japanese builders while encouraging the upgrading of domestic yards. All these moves promise to bring the Chinese industry firmly into the mainstream of the global shipping business. This article introduces the strategies of Cosco. |
