| Abstract | Over the past few years international concern for Hong Kong has ostensibly heightened as its sovereignty change looms. Most of the commentators on Hong Kong affairs invited to the United States, Britain, Canada, Australia and elsewhere belong to the scaremongering school and are good at addressing the converted whose profound doubts need the occasional confirmation. Since the demise of the Soviet Union, China as an evil incarnate is a theme regularly featured in the Western media whose sympathies are blatantly liberal and whose bias is no longer disguised. The author believes that Hong Kong has been sold short. He tried to tell the story of Hong Kong and its future in a positive way to replace the scary myths about it. |
