| Abstract | In Hong Kong, and other cities around the world where there are high concentrations of people from Fujian and Guangdong provinces, preparations are under way for ghostly encounters. It is that time of the year when the gates of hell are said to open, allowing restless spirits to return to earth. From the middle of August to the middle of September, streets will be lined with burning joss sticks, food and paper money to appease the lost and wandering souls. |
