| Abstract | From the point of its conception, Hong Kong Governor Chris Patten knew that there was no way China would ever accept a fully democratic Legislative Council nor a totally free press after 1997. Yet he publicly lambastes all those who oppose his record as being opposed to democracy and freedom in Hong Kong. What he fails to see is that it is not these goals that people are unhappy with, it is the way in which he has tried to achieve them. |
