Abstract | Classified for institutional use, the modern hospitals are no longer designed as just another institutional building nor as container for doctors, nurses and patients. "Commodity, firmness, delight and concept" can also be experienced in design of hospitals. Architects have to involve both function and technology without sacrificing aesthetics. Rather than following architectural fashions in outlook such as post-modernism and high-tech design, the current trend is more emphasized on human relation and operation planning. Though in some case, cultural issues can still be addressed. This article looks at the hospital projects in Hong Kong, mainland China, and other countries. |
