Abstract | On 14 May 1996, Professor Jurgen Habermas, one of the most distinguished philosophers, gave a public lecture at the Centre for Applied Ethics, Hong Kong Baptist University, on the topic, 'Kant's Idea of Perpetual Peace: With the Benefit of Two Hundred Years' Hindsight.' The first part sketched out the premisses which constitute Kant's starting point, and which affect all three steps in his argument. The second part was devoted to the examination of Kant's idea of peace in light of the historical experience of the last two hundred years and the last part turned to the question of how Kant's idea must be reformulated in view of the contemporary global situation. |
