| Abstract | Thiazide diuretics are known to have adverse metabolic effects at higher doses from studies in Caucasians. Dyslipidaemia and diabetes appear to be increasing in the Chinese population in Hong Kong and are often associated with hypertension. These conditions may become apparent or may be worsened by diuretic treatment used in hypertension. This article summarizes a study which was performed to assess whether the metabolic response to thiazide diuretics in Chinese hypertensives was similar to that described in Caucasians. |
