| Abstract | Chongqing, the largest metropolis and industrial and transport centre in southwest China, is to assume an additional role - coordinating the rehabilitation of the millions of people displaced by the Three Gorges project and the economic development of the region. Chongqing will take over the administration duties from the provincial government of two municipalities, Wanxian and Fuling, and the prefecture of Qianjiang, all in eastern Sichuan. |
