| Abstract | Recently in China, the Qingdao City Statistics Bureau dispatched officials to over 400 state-run, collectively-owned and individually operated clothing retail outlets in the city. These inspection tours, which were supported by officials from the Qingdao Commodity Price Bureau and the local Bureau of Commerce, were prompted by complaints from consumers that the prices of clothing have risen too sharply. The inquiry started in late April 1995 and continued into early June 1995. |
