| Abstract | The runway and surrounding strip for Macau International Airport were formed on an artificial island founded on highly compressible marine deposits over a very short construction period. This paper shows how the consolidation equations were extended to give a method that can take account of multiple load variations, including unloading and subsequent reloading, the insertion of vertical drains part way through the loading process, and secondary compression. |
