AbstractOwing to its location on an artificial island founded on highly compressible marine deposits, and the short time-scale required for its completion, control of residual settlements was of prime consideration in the construction of the runway and taxiways for Macau International Airport. This paper describes precautions that were taken to keep settlements after completion of the island within acceptable limits, including practical experience with ground treatment methods and ground monitoring.
