| Abstract | Silk production has an extraordinarily long history in China and the trade in silk goods went on for 2000 years without formal restrictions. The United States and European Union have now imposed quota restrictions on general and pure silk products, but they benefit few and injure many, and the new liberalised trade regime should bring them quickly to an end. In this paper, which was presented to the 76th World Conference of the Textile Institute, the author shows the impact of these restrictions to those seriously affected parties. |
