| Abstract | The State Council announced at the end of October 1995 further VAT tax rebate cuts. From 1 January 1996, new rebate rates will take effect. Reports have meanwhile circulated among foreign investors that China may, in 1997, impose VAT on imported raw materials and capital goods, a measure which would do great damage to the joint-venture and foreign-funded textile plants. |
